Colored Cooking Emanuelle Moureaux

Red is known for increasing the appetite, and therefore often used in restaurants. But what do you do when you're asked to design the International Technical Chef College Utsunomiya, Japan? Emmanuelle Moureaux created a concept to create spaces for learning that would exite and stimulate the five senses. She used foods a basis for the colors used, and gave each floor it's own color, and only the first floor would be multi colored, using all the colors used in the rest of the building. In the hallways, different hues of one color we're applied to create a rhytmic feeling when strolling through the corridors. Emmanuelle uses a concept she calls 'shikiri' in her designs, she aims to use colors to depict spaces and create boudaries between spaces.

Different yellows and oranges we're used for the second floor classrooms and teaching rooms, yellow being associated with pineapple and orange with pumpkins.

Pink was used for the third floor, where cakes and breadbaking labs are, inspired by strawberry shortcake.

The fourth floor used greens that we're inspired by mints.

And allthough blue is known for reducing your appetite (blue food doesn't really work, it reminds you of moldy food) the cafe was made blue.
