What would you normally expect if you go to a laundromat? Boring, uncomfortable, impersonal places to be? You’re right. That’s what they usually are. So Splash in Barcelona let Frederic Perers do it differently. They obviously want to drive people in. Who wouldn’t prefer Splash over the common laundromat? Besides the hip name, it looks so warm. Comfortable. All the materials are generally considered cold. The metals of the machines are continued through out the space. But when lit differently, with different oranges instead of the normal cliché makes-you-look-sick lighting , all of the sudden it’s not so bad anymore. You actually look good at the local laundromat. Sure the floors are white, but that’s ok, you want a laundromat to be visibly clean right? The ceilings are black giving the whole place a clubby feel. All it needs now really is a bar and you’re ready to chat up to the girl next door you’ve had your eye on for so long.
