Pos1t1on designers duo create interiors and design furniture. Each of their collections has its own story, but there is a general vision to their design. Their vision refers to Hungarian design from the 50’s and 60’s. This period isn’t well known. Although it does have a lot to offer. There was just a little activity. It was all state controlled. The country was so controlled back then, everything was locked up. What was developed in that period was uniquely Hungarian. Socialistic realism, rooted in classic modernism. Very functional designs. Using natural materials for their qualities. Those design principles are now being applied again, in a contemporary setting of course. For their designs, Pos1t1ion uses natural materials often, thereby also determining the colors of many of their products made of wood and metals. (photos by Georgij Merjas).

For the Pran couches and chairs, Pos1t1on prefers to use darker tones, with coloured accents. Their colors aren’t intense, but they feel furniture is a part of the interior that doesn’t require bright colors. In the images, the colored accessories and panels we’re used the make the composition as a whole more interesting and to contrast with the furniture. Thereby creating a focus on the furniture.

Earlier they used to work with fashion designers, to help them with textile choices for example. Their Pran collection is the first collection where they made the color choices themselves. Being inspired by Indian travels where they learned to appreciate combining colors more, they started to apply a wider range of different colors. The lamp collection offers a variety of colors that you can combine yourself. They stuck to current trends in colors when selecting colors to keep their work accessible. So in the end, with Pos1t1on, you’ll get current colour trends, with the natural colors and functional designs from a Hungary most of us don’t really know much about.
